Ditch over-processed, sugary sprinkles for a natural, homemade version! These vibrant sprinkles are made from shredded coconut colored with natural food powders. Perfect for topping ice cream, yogurt, chocolate pudding, smoothie bowls, and more.
1. Preheat the oven to the lowest setting (ideally 175°F or under). If your oven doesn’t go that low, prop the door open slightly with a wooden spoon. Use the “fan off” setting if possible.
2. In a small bowl, combine the coconut, natural food powder (e.g., beetroot, dragonfruit, turmeric, spirulina, blueberry, or cocoa powder for desired color), and mix thoroughly until evenly coated. Let it sit for a minute or two to absorb.
3. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat. Spread the colored coconut in a thin, even layer. Break up any clumps with a fork. Repeat for other colors on separate sections or trays if making multiple colors.
4. Place in the oven for 30-60 minutes until fully dried. Stir gently every 20–30 minutes with a fork to ensure even drying and break up clumps. Check frequently near the end. They’re done when fully dry and crisp. Do not let them brown or burn.
5. Remove from the oven and let cool completely on the tray (they crisp up more as they cool). Store in an airtight jar or container at room temperature for 4-6 weeks. Sprinkle on ice cream, yogurt, chocolate pudding, smoothie bowls, etc.
